New House

Last week was the bad reality of signing papers, going deeper into debt, and the fears associated with actually getting "connected" to another human being. Before, I could walk away and essentially just be out an engagement ring and a few hundred dollars for closing and such. Now Maryanne and I are legally connected. At least regarding a piece of property in Rogers.

Anyway, that was the scary, nerve-wracking reality. This weekend was the fun reality. We moved some stuff from the dome house to the new house, and got to walk around and plan where we're going to put stuff. Also did some work on the house; Maryanne brought Martin's power-washer, and I managed to clean the majority of the deck and the back walkway. She's been a great help in terms of labor but also morale. I'm not used to having someone around who -wants- to help me, and tells me when something is working or not, I'm doing my best to not overstrain her. There have been others who had no problem tearing me down, but she may be the first who actually tries to build me up.

I don't know how she does it, some feminine wisdom perhaps, but it's something I'm really starting to appreciate.

Comments:
Brownie points and gold stars for Maryanne! YEA, MARYANNE!!! It's great she makes you feel so good.

And just for the record, according to Judge Judy, an engagement ring is given in contemplation of marriage, like a contract. And if the marriage doesn't happen the ring should be returned to the giver.

I've heard conflicting reports on the ring, and I think it's a state-by-state, case-by-case kind of issue. In some cases, only if the bride breaks off the engagement is the ring to be returned. In others, anyone can break the engagement and the ring is returned to the groom. I suspect the second will become more common, as alimony becomes less common, and people realize that women have just as much economic power as men. Which is to say, very little.

But anyway, breaking engagements isn't the most optimistic of topics....

you mentioned a proximity to Krispy Kremes a few posts back...those would make for some excellent game night food...though not this week...I won't be here.
