The Periphery of the Mind

Saturday: Went to watch my sister and husband renew their wedding vows. Nice event, with food from Charlie's Chicken.

Sunday: Watched Fido and No Country For Old Men with Peltablo. I liked Fido quite a bit; an amusing parody of the "boy and his dog" genre, but with a flesh hungry zombie instead of a dog.
Timmy: "Fido! Go get help! Go get mom! But don't -eat- mom!"
Fido: "Unnnnnnh."
No Contry for Old Men was by the Coen Brothers, and had moments of great visuals, impressive brutality, and some amusing bits. But it failed to really tie them all together. I'd put it in the same category as Fargo or The Big Lebowski, but it's much darker than either and not nearly as much fun.

I did however try my hand at cooking some peppered chicken in sesame oil. Not bad, but needs some work.

Monday: Perhaps the most interesting thing to report is that I can honestly say I now have more experience cutting glass than I did before. I'm about half done with my cutting, but need to invest about $90 in a grinder to properly shape and smooth the glass before I can start welding it together. Then I'll see if the wood frame pieces I cut on the table saw will work (I may need some longer boards), cut the frame to size and miter the corners of it, stain the wood, and assemble it all. It's pretty neat and fun really.

I also made a frittata with free-range eggs, fresh fennel, some chopped red pepper, a chopped fat-free hot dog, pepper, and salt. I cheated though, but I may try a more traditional version of the dish in the future.
