Spore

So I'm getting my mom Spore. And she didn't know what it was. So....

You start out as a little single-celled creature, and grow him up into an intergalactic civilization. At each stage of the game you design and evolve your creature, his tools, his society, his buildings, his music, and so forth. Not sure if you can customize their mating dances or not, and yes, I'm serious about their being mating dances.

It's basically a "god game" crossed with modelling clay. Except you can "share" everything you create with other players, and once you master your world there's a whole galaxy out there, with planets populated with creatures created by random generators or other players.

The following is a "first time played" review of the stand-alone creature creator, which is just one part of the full game.

And here's another one.

From what I've seen, all the creation tools (buildings, vehicles, etc.) use similar editors. The editors are designed to be more like scuplting clay and less like mathematical exercises: fun, simple, and without a right or wrong way to play with them.
