The Periphery of the Mind

We headed out around 9:30 on Saturday morning. Not much to say really, except that we got lost south of Hattiesburg. I don't know what it is about that town, but it seems like I always get lost south of Hattiesburg. Maybe the force that gets me lost is the same one that compels the people of Mississippi to just kind of walk out in the middle of the road, into traffic. I dunno', but suicidal jaywalking wasn't an isolated incident.

We pulled into the De Soto National Forest and set up camp around 5:30. We paid $11 to set up in the "primitive area". Which means we drove past a few hundred RVs to go set up a tent around another couple of dozen campsites. I was really surprised at how crowded it all was. That said the forest itself was nice, and the park outside the campsites was well maintained. The only really odd part was that to get to the park and campsites we had to drive across a section of road that was adjacent to a lake. And the section of road was actually lower than the lake it was next to. Since I never saw any other way in or out, I really have to wonder how often people get stranded in the park due to flooding.
